Be your beautiful self
"When I first saw [Shine], it caught my breath. The feeling it gave me was of being lifted up, and floating towards heaven...It's now hung in my bedroom, so it's the first and last thing I see each day. It's truly magical."
Shine shows distant mountains overlooking a calm and serene lake. Its waters reflect the setting sun against a myriad of colours. Daisies soar from the lake and reach to the sky.
I envisioned the concept for this painting in a dream. I was asked to explain why a flower was in a paper bag. The flower represented the human spirit, the soul, and the bag represented the physical body. Once we know who we are, we’re no longer held back from being ourselves and are no longer constrained by the physical world. We free ourselves from ‘the paper bag’, it falls away, and we are our true selves.
The daisies in the painting are a symbol of innocence and purity. Reflecting the purity of the mind, heart and soul they symbolise inner sanctity. The nature of them soaring to the skies can be equated to our own human spirit, which when set free from all constraints can reach dazzling heights. When the chains of bondage are removed the true self is visible and your spirit is free to conquer the world.
'Shine’ like the daisies and be your true and beautiful self, break free from all that weighs you down.
